As Manchester wakes today to another unexpected sunny September morning, a section of the Northern Quarter is buzzing with activity.
Not just the usual clatter of keyboards cranking out digital joy for the clients of web agencies; this is the clanking of hammers, the buzzing of saws and the muttering of walkie talkies. From any angle on Tariff Street, Hilton Street or Dale Street one thing is clear: a Hollywood blockbuster is coming to town.
1940s shopfronts are being added to buildings, drainpipes newly painted and gorgeous old facades revealed after years under scaffold. At the junction of Dale Street and Newton Street, bricks are being hand decorated one by one.
From our bunker in the heart of the filming zone, we’re getting excited by the prospect of streets lined with amazing old cars and slipping into trenchcoats and trilby hats to blend in with the scene as we turn up for work.
